The historian’s greatest collaborator is the archivist

Recently I happened upon a great, brief post about the importance of the archivists:  Keepers of the Flame, from Under the Fig Tree blog.  It was a brief salute to the archivist’s role in nourishing history – “True, archivists do not generate money for their institutions. But what they do generate — and sustain and nourish — is a vibrant sense of history, without which the broader community is impoverished in ways that go well beyond the contours of a budget.”

Do archivists generate wealth for an institution?  Directly, usually no.  Is an institution wealthier because of their contribution?  Absolutely.
